Job summary

Respite Care of San Antonio Inc. is seeking a Residential Care Provider to care for children with intellectual and developmental disabilities in an emergency shelter. You will ensure safety, implement nurturing routines, and support basic living skills while fostering a stable, caring environment.

The role emphasizes de-escalation, trauma-informed care, and collaboration with a team to meet licensing requirements and program goals. Onsite work in San Antonio, TX is expected.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 21 years old.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Ability to pass all background checks.
• Ability to attend 40 hours of paid orientation.
• Experience with children with developmental disabilities preferred.

Responsibilities

• Oversee children during creative play, homework, church and community activities.
• Assist children with clothing, personal items, grooming and nutrition.
• Build trust with children through mutual respect and listening with compassion.
• Provide support, affection, and positive behavior guidance.
• Respond promptly to children’s needs and manage difficult situations with de-escalation techniques.
• Document incidents with supervisors, daily logs, and relevant reports.
• Transport children to visits, activities, school, and medical appointments.
