Job summary

Crisis Center of Comal County in New Braunfels, TX is seeking a Food Services / Case Aide to plan, prepare, and serve nutritious meals for shelter residents and staff, while managing kitchen operations and ensuring food-safety compliance.

You will transport supplies, maintain records, and support residents with compassionate, trauma-informed care in a shelter environment. Flexibility for weekends/holidays is required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• Experience in institutional, commercial, school, healthcare, shelter, or other large-scale food service.
• Knowledge of food safety, sanitation, safe food handling, and proper food storage.
• Experience with menu planning, meal production, inventory management, portion control, and food-service records.
• Ability to plan and prepare meals and manage food-service responsibilities independently.
• Strong organizational, time-management, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Valid Texas driver’s license and proof of auto liability insurance.
• Food Handler certification or willingness to obtain certification within 30 days of hire.
• Ability to work an assigned five-day schedule, including weekends and holidays, based on shelter needs.
• Successful completion of required background screening, including fingerprinting, drug screening, and driving record check.

Responsibilities

• Prepare Great Food: Plan, prepare, and cook balanced meals for shelter residents and staff.
• Manage the Kitchen & Pantry: Maintain a clean, organized kitchen and dining area; manage inventory, ordering, and storage.
• Support USDA/CACFP Requirements: Follow meal-pattern, food-service, and documentation requirements.
• Keep Things Moving: Transport food and supplies; operate shelter vehicles safely.
• Be a Supportive Presence for Residents: Promote residents’ well‑being and maintain a safe, welcoming environment; apply trauma-informed principles.
