Job summary

A Safe Haven's Intake Driver role supports Chicago's STAR program, transporting clients to shelters and handling mobile intake at 10 S. Kedzie.

You will conduct pre/post trip checks, engage with clients with trauma-informed care, and assist with on-site intake and safety operations during high-volume periods.

This role requires a valid IL driver’s license, willingness to work evenings, weekends, and holidays, and the ability to lift 40 lbs.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• Valid Illinois driver’s license with clean driving record.
• 2+ years in shelter, social services, outreach, transportation, or related roles.
• Familiarity with GPS, dispatch tools, mobile devices, and cloud-based data entry.
• Able to lift up to 40 lbs and drive long distances.
• Willingness to work evenings, overnights, weekends, and holidays.
• Successful background check and health clearances.
• Bilingual English/Spanish or other language proficiency a plus.

Responsibilities

• Transport individuals and families to designated shelter sites.
• Navigate using GPS and dispatch tools.
• Record trip logs and intake data in real time.
• Maintain safety, trauma-informed interactions, and client dignity.
• Assist with on-site intake and crowd management.
