Job summary

Methodist Hospitals in Gary, IN seeks a Forensic Nurse Examiner to provide trauma-informed care to victims of violence. You will conduct medical forensics exams, collect evidence, coordinate with a multidisciplinary team, and assist in safety planning and follow-up referrals.

Requirements include an RN license in Indiana, CPR, and SANE training within 1 year of hire. Prior emergency and forensic nursing experience preferred; board certifications are a plus.

Qualifications

• RN license in Indiana required
• CPR certification required
• Adult/Adolescent SANE training within 1 year of hire required
• Pediatric SANE training within 1 year of hire required
• Intimate Partner Violence training within 1 year of hire required
• Board certifications in SANE-A, SANE-P, GFN-C preferred

Responsibilities

• Triage patients to determine need for advanced provider evaluation
• Coordinate care with multidisciplinary team and community partners
• Assess mandatory reporting status and report when appropriate
• Provide safe, therapeutic care to victims of violence
• Perform complete physical and forensic exam including evidence collection and documentation
• Administer medications per protocols
• Communicate with victims to identify needs and provide education
• Assist with safety planning and referrals for follow-up care
• Maintain chain of custody for evidence
• Provide testimony as a fact witness and coordinate with attorneys
• Attend staff meetings and continuing education
• Maintain a clean, safe, patient-ready exam environment
