Job summary

DHR Health in Edinburg, TX seeks a RN Forensic Nurse Examiner (FT, varies 3:3 shift) to provide expert forensic nursing care in the ED and SAFE unit. The role requires trauma-informed assessment, evidence collection, documentation, and collaboration with law enforcement and legal teams.

Qualified candidates hold a TX RN license, SANE CP/CA certification or enrollment, and must obtain SANE certification within 6 months. ACLS/PALS and TNCC are expected within specified timeframes.

Qualifications

• High School/GED required.
• Graduate of accredited school of nursing required.
• Current registered nurse’s license in the State of Texas required.
• Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner Certification Pediatric (CP) and Adult/Adolescent (CA) or enrollment in Texas SANE/Forensic Education Program required.
• Must obtain SANE certification within 6 months of hire.
• ACLS and PALS certification within 12 months of hire.
• TNCC within 18 months of hire, recommended.
• Must be able to be sensitive to cultural and bilingual issues.
• Good written and verbal communication skills required.
• Requires travel, valid driver’s license and vehicle insurance are required.
• Ability to read, write and speak English required.

Responsibilities

• Provide independent, trauma-informed forensic nursing care for sexual assault victims.
• Perform comprehensive forensic examinations including evidence collection and documentation.
• Maintain chain of custody for all forensic evidence.
• Coordinate with law enforcement, attorneys and medical staff as needed.
• Testify in court and assist during judicial processes.
