Job summary

Saint Joseph Health System in Mishawaka, Indiana, is seeking a Forensic Registered Nurse to work weekend days, 9:00 a.m.–9:00 p.m., with 12-hour shifts during the week as needed. This role provides complete forensic exams, evidence collection, and testimony in judicial proceedings while delivering patient-centered care.

Qualified candidates will have an active RN license, BLS, and critical care experience, plus SANE training or the ability to complete it within specified timelines.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited RN program.
• Successful completion of the Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) Training and additional didactic and clinical hours related to care of patients of domestic violence, strangulation, sexual abuse, child physical abuse and elder abuse prior to start or within timelines.
• Within 3 months of hire, complete Adult/Adolescent SANE training
• Within 6 months of hire, complete Pediatric SANE training
• Within 18 months of hire, complete Advanced Strangulation Prevention course
• Current RN License (RN-IN).
• Current BLS certification.
• Experience: Critical care nursing is required.

Responsibilities

• Perform and document a complete physical and forensic evidence collection examination including head-to-toe assessment for trauma, detailed genital examination, forensic specimen collection and documentation, including photography, and assess for mandatory reporting status.
• Provide testimony as fact witness to cases and coordinate with attorneys during judicial process.
• Take on-call shifts as scheduled per departmental needs and respond within approximately 60 minutes of dispatch.
