Job summary

FamilyAid in Newton, MA seeks a Direct Care Staff to support homeless families in a program setting. You will ensure safety, comfort and adherence to rules, working with a trauma-informed approach to promote well-being and transitions to stable housing.

The role requires on-site work with specific shifts and bilingual English and Haitian Creole or Spanish. A High School diploma or GED is required; an Associate or Bachelor's degree is preferred or relevant experience.

Qualifications

• High School or GED required.
• Bilingual in English and Haitian Creole or Spanish required.
• Associate or bachelor’s degree preferred, or significant relevant experience.
• Understanding of Trauma Informed Care is preferred.
• Understanding of de-escalation techniques is preferred.
• Previous human service experience, preferably residential, with a strong interest in working with homeless families.

Responsibilities

• The Direct Care Staff ensures that the program is a safe, respectful, and supportive environment for every family member, visitor, and staff.
• The Direct Care Staff will assist families in understanding and complying with policies and practices and will monitor shared areas and family units to maintain safety and security.
• The Direct Care Staff will respond to client crises, adhering to agency and state incident reporting and child safety protocols and will use person-centered, harm-reduction, trauma-informed, culturally competent, and strengths-based approaches with families in all interactions.
