Job summary

UNC Health Care in Chapel Hill, NC is seeking a Clinical Nurse for the Surgical Trauma Critical Care Unit. This 36-hour-per-week, day-shift role supports a fast-paced Level 1 Trauma certified unit providing bedside nursing care to diverse surgical and trauma patients.

ACLS preferred; strong collaboration with an interdisciplinary team is essential. Graduate of a Board of Nursing approved program with NC RN licensure is required; BSN within seven years is encouraged.

Qualifications

• Graduate of a Board of Nursing approved nursing education program.
• If hired after January 6, 2014, must be enrolled within four years of employment, and obtain a Bachelor’s degree with a major in Nursing or a Master’s degree with a major in Nursing within seven years of employment date.

Responsibilities

• Education - identify and meet learning needs of self; attends education programs; uses patient education materials.
• Evaluation of Care - identify expected patient outcomes; participate in interdisciplinary evaluation; communicate to promote continuity of care.
• Implementation - care for patients with complex problems; perform bedside testing; follow policies; organize and prioritize care; involve resources for high-risk patients.
• Leadership - set goals for professional growth; participate in unit goals and performance improvements; promote safe practices.
• Patient Assessment - determine priorities for care; assess education and safety needs; plan discharge needs with families.
• Planning - collaborate with patient/family on care plan; use multidisciplinary resources; address cultural/ethnic planning issues.
• Research - read journals; bring ideas to staff for applicability.
