Job summary

Baldor Specialty Foods, Inc. is seeking a Transportation Supervisor III to oversee overnight transportation operations, route planning, driver supervision, and regulatory compliance to ensure on-time deliveries.

You will coach drivers, dispatch the night shift, optimize routes, monitor KPI metrics, and uphold DOT safety standards in a fast-paced refrigerated environment.

This role requires 2–5 years in transportation, a valid CDL and DOT medical card; bilingual skills are a plus.

Qualifications

  • 2-5 years of experience in transportation, logistics, or distribution operations.
  • Active driver's license and DOT medical card.
  • Prior driver, dispatch, routing or transportation supervisory experience preferred.
  • Experience using routing software and/or transportation management systems preferred.
  • Proven leadership skills to guide and support a team effectively.
  • Strong prioritization and problem-solving skills, essential for managing various challenges.
  • Ability to make independent decisions in line with company policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and execute daily routes to ensure efficient, cost-effective operations.
  • Monitor routing performance and identify opportunities to improve structure and reduce delays.
  • Coordinate with night warehouse operations to stage routes for dispatch.
  • Collaborate with Router to improve route design and delivery performance.
  • Communicate with after-hours vendors and 1st shift.
  • Supervise and coach night and yard staff during overnight operations.
  • Provide real-time support to drivers and resolve customer service issues.
  • Monitor driver scorecards for On-Time Deliveries and Stops Delivered.
  • Ensure DOT compliance and promote safe driving practices.

Job Overview

The Transportation Supervisor III will be responsible for overseeing the overnight transportation operations, including but not limited to, route planning, driver supervision, regulatory compliance and on-time delivery execution.

Brief Description

The Transportation Supervisor III will be responsible for overseeing the overnight transportation operations, including but not limited to, route planning, driver supervision, regulatory compliance and on-time delivery execution. Working closely with routing, warehouse night operations, and transportation leadership, the Transportation Supervisor is responsible for coaching and supporting drivers, dispatching the 3rd shift and 1st shift drivers, optimizing delivery routes, managing yard jockeys, monitoring operational KPI’s and ensuring compliance with DOT and company safety standards.

Key Responsibilities
Transportation Operations & Route Planning
  • Plan and execute daily routes as needed to ensure efficient cost-effective and geographically optimized delivery operations.
  • Monitor routing performance and proactively identify opportunities to improve route structure, reduce delivery service delays, and increase operational efficiency.
  • Coordinate closely with night warehouse operations to ensure routes are properly staged and released for driver dispatch.
  • Collaborate with Router to continuously improve route design and delivery performance.
  • Communicate and act as a liaison between after hour vendors and 1st shift.
Driver Supervision & Leadership
  • Supervise, coach and support local delivery drivers and yard jockeys during overnight operations.
  • Conduct driver ride-alongs for training, performance evaluations and safety reinforcements.
  • Provide real-time operational support to drivers during routes including issue resolution and customer service concerns.
  • Manage driver attendance, scheduling adjustments and operational readiness for dispatch.
  • Lead disciplinary action discussions and documentation with direct reports.
  • Work with leadership on other actions and projects to support the business.
Driver Performance & KPI Management
  • Monitor driver scorecard metrics for On-Time Deliveries, Stops Delivered and Duration.
  • Monitor driver delivery execution and identify coaching opportunities to improve driver performance and customer satisfaction.
Safety & Regulatory Compliance
  • Ensure drivers operate in full compliance with DOT regulations and company safety policies
  • Promote safe driving practices, proper lifting techniques and safe equipment usage including, lift gates, pallet jacks, hand trucks and vehicle safety equipment.
  • Review post-trip inspections to ensure proper maintenance of trucks.
  • Participate in transportation safety initiatives and safety meetings.
Job Requirements
  • 2-5 years of experience in transportation, logistics, or distribution operations.
  • Maintain an active drivers license and DOT medical card.
  • Prior driver, dispatch, routing or transportation supervisory experience preferred.
  • Experience using routing software’s and/or transportation management systems preferred.
  • Proven leadership skills to guide and support a team effectively.
  • Solid understanding of business functions and job responsibilities.
  • Strong prioritization and problem-solving skills, essential for managing various challenges.
  • Ability to make independent decisions in line with company policies and procedures, ensuring timely and consistent application.
  • Ability to multitask and work independently while contributing to the overall success of the team.
  • Proficiency in English is required; Spanish is a plus
Work Environment
  • Ability to lift over 50lbs and stand and maintain active for long periods of time without reasonable accommodation.
  • Ability to work extended hours as needed.
  • Ability to work weekends and holidays as needed.
  • Comfortable working in refrigerated/freezer warehouse environment.
