Job description

The Transportation Supervisor is responsible for leading and controlling activities of branch warehouse personnel assigned to the Transportation Department. This position manages various warehouse activities in an accurate, efficient, and cost-effective manner. The successful candidate will manage their own staff and interface with other departments and customers.

Responsibilities:

1. Analyze and propose methods to increase productivity sustainably.
2. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
3. Ensure safe working conditions and train employees on safety protocols.
4. Manage collection, dispersal, and retention of driver logs, fuel tax reports, accident files, and registers.
5. Counsel and manage employees regarding attendance, performance, and misconduct.
6. Oversee maintenance and repairs of transportation-related equipment.
7. Maximize cube fill rate on delivery vehicles, minimize delivery costs, and increase driver productivity.
8. Direct employees on proper shipping and loading procedures.
9. Audit paperwork for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with laws and policies.
10. Coordinate with other departments such as Sales, Purchasing, and Human Resources.

Requirements:

1. High School diploma or equivalent; Bachelor's degree preferred.
2. At least five years of experience managing transportation in a warehouse/distribution environment.
3. Knowledge of OSHA safety and DOT transportation regulations preferred.
4. Experience with fleet management systems like Omnitracs preferred.
5. Hazmat certification experience preferred.
6. Strong organizational, dependability, and leadership skills.
7. Experience as a commercial driver preferred.
8. Proficiency with MS Office; knowledge of AS400 is a plus.
