Volkert, Inc. is seeking an experienced Transportation Project Engineer for the Gulf Region (Alabama, Mississippi, Tennessee). The role requires 4+ years in traffic or roadway design and a PE license.

You will lead and assist on complex transportation projects, guide junior staff, and collaborate with clients to meet DOT standards and project budgets. The position emphasizes schedule adherence, QA/QC, and effective communication across multidisciplinary teams, with potential travel.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering (ABET-accredited).
• 4–10+ years in roadway design/traffic/transport planning.
• PE license required.
• Familiarity with DOT design methods and MUTCD/AASHTO.

Responsibilities

• Lead or assist in the design of transportation projects including roadway geometry, drainage, traffic signals, signing and pavement markings.
• Conduct traffic operations analyses and prepare traffic impact, safety, corridor, and long-range planning studies.
• Prepare construction plans, specifications, quantities, cost estimates, technical reports, and memorandums.
• Perform calculations applying DOT standards to solve problems and manage projects.
• Direct engineers, designers, and subconsultants to deliver on time and within budget.
