Job summary

RXO Inc. is seeking a Director of Transportation Operations to lead and optimize the end-to-end transportation network across inbound, outbound, and multi-modal logistics in the United States.

You will guide carrier management, routing efficiency, compliance, and TMS optimization to drive cost savings and service improvements. The role requires 8+ years in transportation or logistics with 4+ years in senior leadership, plus hands-on TMS/ERP experience and strong DOT knowledge.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business Admin or related field.
• 8+ years in transportation, fleet management, or logistics operations.
• 4+ years in senior leadership or directorial capacity managing cross-functional teams.
• Hands-on experience with enterprise TMS (MercuryGate, Oracle TMS, SAP TM, Blue Yonder) and ERP platforms (SAP, Workday, or Oracle).
• Deep expertise in DOT regulations, carrier contract negotiation, freight pricing, and multi-modal transportation.

Responsibilities

• Define and execute the overarching transportation strategy across inbound, outbound, and multi-modal network logistics.
• Continuously evaluate routes, carrier networks, and distribution hubs to minimize lead times and costs.
• Lead continuous improvement initiatives (Lean, Six Sigma) to eliminate inefficiencies and improve service reliability.
• Oversee carrier selection, contract negotiations, rate structures, and SLAs across TL, LTL, parcel, intermodal, and dedicated fleets.
• Establish and monitor KPIs for carrier performance, including OTIF delivery, damage rates, and billing accuracy.
• Maintain strategic relationships with transportation providers and 3PL partners.
• Manage the annual transportation budget and P&L performance, analyzing variances and cost-saving measures.
• Oversee daily dispatch, freight scheduling, load planning, and routing operations across sites.
• Partner with warehouse operations, customer service, and procurement to align demand with capacity.
• Ensure compliance with DOT, FMCSA, OSHA, EPA, and Hazmat guidelines.
• Drive adoption and optimization of TMS, telematics, and visibility platforms.
