Job summary

SpartanNash in Fargo, ND, seeks a Manager of Transportation to lead the transportation operations, including supervising drivers, dispatching, routing and planning for for-hire and backhaul activities. The role requires five years of transport planning experience, a relevant degree, and strong knowledge of DOT/CSA and OSHA regulations; supervision experience is essential.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in Logistics (Required) or Bachelor’s in Transportation/Supply Chain Management or related field.
• Minimum five years of transportation planning/logistics/dispatch experience.
• Two years of supervisory/management experience.
• Experience with DOT/CSA, OSHA compliance and related regulations.
• Proficiency in Word, Excel and PowerPoint; working knowledge of transportation onboarding software (Cadec or Omnitracs preferred).

Responsibilities

• Manage transportation operations, including supervising drivers, dispatching, routing and planning for for-hire cartage and backhauls.
• Coordinate with warehouse, maintenance and other departments to ensure safe, timely deliveries.
• Negotiate rates for third-party services and contract drivers as needed.
• Oversee dispatch, schedule adherence and performance metrics to maximize resources and minimize miles.
• Ensure DOT/CSA and OSHA compliance and proper HOS reporting.
• Develop and maintain reporting on transportation activities and expenses (cost per mile, operating ratio, utilization, delivery performance).
• Maintain equipment availability and coordinate with maintenance for preventive/corrective actions.
• Lead department staffing, training, performance reviews, and career development.
• Travel up to 5% as necessary.
