The City of Milwaukee's Department of Public Works is looking for a part-time Transportation Operations Assistant. The Department of Public Works (DPW) Multimodal Unit isseeking college students interested in transportation planning, policy, anddesign to fill part-time, year-round positions.

DPW’s Multimodal Unit works to create sustainable, vibrant,equitable, and connected streets and public spaces that provide choice, safety,comfort, and access for everyone in Milwaukee. We prioritize sustainabletransportation through collaboration and engagement with other departments,outside agencies, community partners, and residents.
This is a part-time internship position (fixed-termappointment), and the maximum number of hours worked per year cannot exceed1,019 hours.

Under the general direction of the TransportationEngineering Planner and other Multimodal Unit team members, the TransportationOperations Assistant helps implement theCity’sComplete Streets Policy , Pedestrian Plan, Bicycle Plan, and Safe Routes toSchool Plan, and helps achieve City goals related to safe street design,equity,health, andclimate .

The current starting hourly rate (Pay Range 9PN) is$20.54,and the resident incentive starting hourly rate for City of Milwaukee residentsis$21.16.
THE SELECTION PROCESSwill be job-related and willconsist of one or more of the following: an evaluation of education,experience, and/or responses to supplemental questions; a written orperformance test, a structured interview, or other assessment methods. TheDepartment of Employee Relations reserves the right to call only the mostqualified candidates to structured interviews and performance examinations.Structured interviews may include written exercises. Selection processcomponent weights will be determined by further analysis of the job.
