Job summary

The West Virginia Division of Highways invites qualified applicants for Transportation Worker 2 Mechanics to support District 7 at the Lewis County Equipment Shop and the Upshur County Headquarters in West Virginia. You will maintain and repair gasoline and diesel-powered vehicles and highway equipment, diagnose problems, and perform preventive maintenance.

This essential role includes testing equipment, traveling as needed, and progression through a US Department of Labor apprenticeship

Qualifications

• Two years of full-time or equivalent experience as an automotive mechanic servicing gasoline or diesel-powered vehicles/equipment.
• No formal education required.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and repair gasoline/diesel vehicles and highway equipment.
• Diagnose mechanical problems and perform repairs or parts replacements as needed.
• Inspect vehicles for safety and compliance with state regulations.
• Assist higher level mechanics with more complex repairs.
• Travel may be required for field or garage work.
