Job summary

State of West Virginia is seeking a Transportation Worker 2 Equipment Operator to perform skilled highway maintenance and equipment operation. The role includes driving dump, flatbed, and tandem-axle trucks, performing field repairs, and maintaining equipment while adhering to safety standards.

The position is full-time, with a CDL Class A or B license required and potential overtime. Training through the apprenticeship program is provided, and the WVDOT manages over 35,000 miles of state roads.

Qualifications

• Must have a valid Class A or Class B CDL.
• Experience operating highway maintenance equipment preferred.
• No substitutions for the Equipment Operator CDL requirement.
• Willingness to work varied shifts and overtime as needed.

Responsibilities

• Drive and operate highway maintenance vehicles and equipment.
• Perform routine and minor field repairs on equipment.
• Maintain and lubricate tools and machines.
• Help construct and repair culverts, pavement, and bridges.
• Follow safety rules and work with flagging and traffic control duties.
