Job summary

The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Department of Transportation, District 1 Materials Unit, seeks a Transportation Construction Inspector to safeguard material quality for major projects. Qualifications

• Minimum one year as Engineering Technician or two years as Transportation Technician or Construction Cost Technician.
• Three years of highway/bridge surveying, design, construction, or inspection experience.
• Equivalent combination of experience and training.
• Active non-commercial Pennsylvania Class C Driver’s License or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Observe testing procedures at asphalt, concrete, and aggregate plants to confirm compliance with standards.
• Check shipments, weigh slips, and plant documentation to ensure materials meet specifications.
• Record sampling and testing information and report issues to supervisors promptly.
• Review testing methods for extraction, gradation, air content, slump testing, and unit weights.
• Enter inspection data into electronic systems such as eCAMMS and related applications.
• Assist with material reviews, core drilling activities, and onsite inspections across locations.
