Position Summary:
The Transportation Manager will lead all outbound delivery operations for Cooper Booth Transportation. The Transportation Manager will be responsible for efficient, reliable, and cost-effective delivery of goods to Cooper Booth Wholesale customers. This role requires a leader that possesses excellent driver engagement and organizational skills. In addition, the Transportation Manager must partner with several departments including Sales, Warehouse Operations, Customer Service, and Human Resources in meeting company goals for industry-leading service and performance.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Oversee daily transportation operations, including route scheduling, dispatch, delivery, fleet maintenance, driver safety, and department performance.
- Coordinate with warehouse operations teams to ensure timely dispatch and delivery of goods.
- Provide oversight and guidance to Route Supervisors and Managers.
- Manage a team of Dispatchers, Supervisors, and Managers for the Transportation Office.
- Ensure accurate records of driver qualifications, vehicle maintenance, and safety inspections are maintained.
- Establish and enforce safety policies and procedures in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
- Monitor driver and department performance and implement corrective actions as needed.
- Maintain and update the Driver Handbook.
- Develop and implement driver training programs to enhance skills and performance.
- Conduct regular Driver Meetings to ensure timely communication.
- Research and resolve route variances promptly.
- Conduct performance reviews and provide feedback to drivers.
- Implement incentive programs to recognize outstanding performance.
- Meet department payroll and cost management goals.
- Analyze transportation data to identify improvement areas and implement solutions.
- Collaborate with other departments to support business objectives and improve service levels.
- Foster a positive work environment to promote driver satisfaction and retention.
- Stay updated on industry trends and regulatory changes to ensure compliance.
Experience and Qualifications:
- Commercial driving experience preferred; CDL-A experience is a plus.
- At least 5 years' experience managing a private fleet of Class A and Class B drivers.
- Minimum of 5 years' experience in wholesale distribution, preferably in the food industry.
- Knowledge of DOT and FMCSA guidelines, including hours of service, driver rests, and breaks.
- Experience with fleet drive cam technology (e.g., Lytx, Samsara, Geotab).
- Experience managing costs related to mileage, equipment, repairs, and fuel.
- Proven success in improving routing, driver safety, development, and retention.
- Strong knowledge of transportation management systems (TMS) and related software.
- Excellent leadership and communication skills.
- Ability to analyze data and make informed decisions.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Bachelor's degree in Transportation, Logistics, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
