Manager, Transportation will ensure a Transportation department culture focused on people, safety, service, and cost through meaningful engagements with drivers, best in-class service to customers, and safe and profitable operations. They will use their experience in transportation operations to manage personnel and drive efficient transportation operations through the associates they lead, ensuring the safe, accurate and timely daily outbound shipments to customers and other distribution centers within the organization.

Important Notice:

This application is only available to active-duty service members eligible to participate in a DoD SkillBridge Internship. The service member must be within the last 12 months of their active-duty contract. This is an unpaid, non-benefit eligible internship position in partnership with the DoD SkillBridge program.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Safety Leadership: Lead with a safety mindset to ensure injury-free interactions among associates, customers, and the public. Champion safety procedures, processes, and training to foster a safety-first culture.
  2. Team Development: Oversee and develop drivers and transportation associates through coaching, training, and performance discussions. Ensure all team members are trained in their duties, safety, and legal responsibilities.
  3. Performance Management: Discuss performance with senior managers, create improvement plans, and motivate associates to meet department goals. Review performance, coach, and address disciplinary issues as necessary.
  4. Operational Oversight: Supervise work and productivity, ensure accuracy and customer satisfaction, troubleshoot delivery issues, and ensure compliance with DOT regulations.
  5. Process Improvement: Identify waste, improve processes for safety and efficiency, and oversee safety and driver meetings. Maintain driver qualification files and investigate accidents to prevent future incidents.
  6. Scheduling: Effectively plan work shifts using tools like Microsoft Excel.
  7. Additional Duties: Perform other tasks as assigned by the manager.
Supervision and Relationships

Supervision: Direct union and/or non-union drivers.

Relationships: Collaborate with transportation leaders, coworkers, drivers, warehouse leaders, and internal customers like sales, as well as external customers.

Work Environment

Time spent on the road, exposure to noise and vibration, and office work in a computer environment.

Minimum Qualifications
  • At least three years of experience in transportation/delivery or warehouse distribution.
  • At least one year of experience supervising a workforce.
  • Driving experience is a plus.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Broad knowledge of transportation operations.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and development skills.
  • Understanding of DOT, OSHA, and inventory regulations.
  • Ability to interpret financial and operational data.
  • Basic computer skills.
Travel and Education

10% travel required. High school diploma or GED required; college degree preferred.

Physical Qualifications

Must perform activities such as driving, pushing/pulling, climbing, grasping, manipulating objects, and manual dexterity for specified durations.

Compensation

Base salary ranges from $55,000 to $90,000, depending on experience, education, skills, location, and other factors as applicable by law.
