Job summary

BlueLinx Corporation is hiring a Transportation Manager to lead a CDL fleet and oversee DOT-regulated operations in a defined geographic area. You’ll drive safety, compliance, staffing, and efficient routing of deliveries.

You will hire and develop drivers, manage maintenance, and ensure on-time service while coordinating with carriers and internal teams to meet performance goals.

Qualifications

  • Prior experience managing a CDL fleet and/or transportation management in a distribution operation is required.
  • Experience with DOT and Safety regulations with a strong safety bias.
  • Knowledge of preventive maintenance.
  • Strong leadership, communication and people development skills.
  • Broad knowledge of DOT and transportation operations, methods and procedures.
  • Knowledge of routing software and on-board electronic log systems.
  • Process improvement and operating efficiency competency.
  • Branch operations and systems knowledge.
  • Experience in vendor pickups, stock replenishment; inventory control; shipping/receiving; safety and government compliance.
  • CDL is preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and related tools.

Responsibilities

  • Understand the company’s vision, mission, and strategy; set and accomplish performance goals.
  • Ensure compliance with policies, procedures, standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Manage up to 30 drivers, third-party carriers and routing staff to ensure compliant operations.
  • Hire licensed CDL drivers and oversee safety training; schedule staffing coverage.
  • Hold direct reports accountable and address performance with coaching and discipline as needed.
  • Ensure deliveries are routed optimally and integrated into routing solutions.
  • Monitor on-time delivery and customer service standards.
  • Lead safety investigations and resolve issues promptly.
  • Manage on-site fueling station and EPA compliance.
  • Oversee on-board camera system and electronic logs compliance.
  • Maintain DQ files and compliance.
  • Oversee fleet maintenance and cost-effective servicing.
  • Recommend fleet procurement and replacement aligned with logistics.

What You’ll Do
  • Understand the company’s vision, mission, and strategy; understand business unit objectives and set/accomplish individual performance goals accordingly.
  • Ensure compliance with policies and procedures, rules, standards, customer requirements and governmental/DOT regulatory requirements.
  • Manage up to 30 drivers, third party carriers and the routing clerk/function to ensure that both facilities consistently complies with group routing procedures.
  • Hire licensed CDL drivers to ensure appropriate staffing; oversee required safety and company training upon hire. Oversee scheduling of staff to ensure adequate coverage.
  • Hold direct reports accountable for individual and team performance. Address performance issues appropriately and timely, providing coaching and discipline as needed.
  • Ensure all deliveries are routed in an optimal manner and that all product deliveries, both internal and external, are integrated into a comprehensive routing solution.
  • Monitor tracking and on-time deliveries and customer service support, ensuring service level standards met.
  • Participate in safety investigations when complaints or incidents arise and resolve issues in a professional and timely manner.
  • Manage the on-site fueling station, ensuring EPA compliance.
  • Oversee and ensure compliance with on-board camera system / electronic logs.
  • Oversee DQ file maintenance and compliance.
  • Manage/execute fleet maintenance processes at the branch to ensure that all vehicles are serviced in uniform, cost effective and timely procedures.
  • Recommend the purchase/lease fleet tractors and trailers for the region as necessary and consistent with logistics group fleet replacement procedures.
  • Manage/execute backhaul processes and integrate sourcing, select and service both internal and external backhaul opportunities into daily routing activities.
  • Administer and refine measurement processes to drive continuous improvement in areas such as Service, Quality, Productivity and expense control within the location’s transportation program.
What We’re Looking For

  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite Software and relevant tools/technology.
  • Years of experience: 5-8 years-experience in related field preferred. 6+ years-experience w/ MS/MA/MBA.
