Job summary

South Carolina Department of Transportation seeks an Assistant District Construction Engineer to support the District Construction Engineer in managing district projects and personnel.

The role involves reviewing plans, analyzing data for staffing decisions, and representing the department at public meetings. You will supervise the District Asphalt Manager and may testify in court on engineering procedures.

Qualifications

• A bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or Construction Science and Management.
• Six (6) years of engineering or construction management work experience, or an approved acceptable equivalence.

Responsibilities

• Serves as Assistant District Construction Engineer, assisting the District Construction Engineer in managing district construction functions.
• Prepares responses to inquiries from SCDOT personnel, state and federal agencies, and the public concerning construction engineering.
• Reviews plans for proposed projects and makes recommendations for improvement.
• Reviews, analyzes, and compiles data to advise District Construction Engineer on staffing needs and manages CEI contracts.
• Represents the Department at public meetings and liaises with county and municipal officials.
• Supervises District Asphalt Manager and supports Resident Construction Engineers and pavement-related matters.
• Provides expert testimony in court on engineering procedures.
• Manages CEI contract reviews and ensures timely completion.
