Job summary

The South Carolina Department of Transportation seeks a qualified professional to serve as Assistant District Construction Engineer. You will assist the District Construction Engineer in managing district construction functions, review plans, and prepare responses to inquiries from SCDOT personnel, agencies, and the public.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or Construction Science and 6 years of engineering or construction management experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence.
• Willingness to travel and ability to work outdoors and in varying weather conditions.
• Ability to provide expert testimony in court on engineering procedures.

Responsibilities

• Assist the District Construction Engineer in managing district construction functions.
• Review plans for proposed projects and advise on improvements.
• Review, analyze, and compile data to support staffing and CEI contracts.
• Represent the Department at public meetings and liaise with county/municipal officials.
• Supervise District Asphalt Manager and support Resident Construction Engineers and department in pavement matters.
• Manage construction-related encroachment permit reviews and ensure timely processing.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
