Fishbeck, Thompson, Carr & Huber is seeking a Transportation Engineering Intern (Drainage Focus) in Grand Rapids, MI. This seasonal position offers hands-on experience in stormwater and drainage design, with exposure to Civil 3D and MicroStation tools.

You will work with engineers across disciplines, perform hydrologic calculations, and contribute to drainage reports and construction plans while developing your skills for a career in transportation engineering.

Competenze

• Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering.
• Interest in transportation engineering, drainage design, stormwater management.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Exposure to AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation, or similar software preferred.
• Effective communication and collaborative teamwork.
• Previous internship or project experience in transportation or water resources is a plus.
• Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites.

Transportation Engineering Intern (Drainage Focus)

Location: Grand Rapids, MI

Employment Type: Seasonal

Working with our Transportation Team, you will support the planning, analysis, and design of stormwater and roadway drainage systems for transportation projects. You will gain hands-on experience working alongside engineers on projects ranging from local road improvements to major transportation infrastructure developments.

What You’ll Do

• Assist with storm sewer, culvert, and roadway drainage design for transportation projects.
• Perform basic hydrologic and hydraulic calculations under the direction of project engineers.
• Support the development of drainage reports, permit applications, and technical documentation.
• Assist with preparing construction plans, profiles, details, and exhibits using Civil 3D and/or MicroStation.

What We’re Looking For

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related engineering field.
• Interest in transportation engineering, drainage design, stormwater management, or water resources engineering.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Exposure to AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation, or similar design software is preferred.
• Ability to communicate effectively and work in a collaborative team environment.
• Previous internship, coursework, or project experience related to transportation or water resources is a plus.
• Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites as needed.
