Job summary

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is seeking a Transportation Engineer Specialist to design bridges, culverts, and retaining walls in Franklin County. You will detail structures to KYTC and AASHTO LRFD standards, and review designs by other engineers.

Ideal candidate has four years of engineering experience beyond licensure and must be licensed as a Professional Engineer or able to obtain licensure in Kentucky within six months. Travel to job sites may be required.

Qualifications

• Must have four years of engineering experience in addition to that required for licensure as a Professional Engineer.
• A master's degree in engineering will substitute for one year of the required experience.
• Graduate work in engineering beyond a master's degree will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.

By joining our Division of Structural Design as a Transportation Engineer Specialist in Franklin County, you'll have the opportunity to design highway structures in accordance with KYTC requirements as well as in accordance with the AASHTO LRFD (Load and Resistance Factor Design) Bridge Design Specifications.

Must possess a valid driver's license prior to employment in this job classification. Must be licensed as a professional engineer by the Kentucky Board of Licensure for Engineers and Land Surveyors OR must be licensed in another state with the ability to obtain a Professional Engineering license from the Kentucky Board of Licensure for Engineers and Land Surveyors within the employee's initial six month probationary period. Engineering decisions recommended by individuals without a Kentucky Professional Engineering License must be approved by a KRS Chapter 322 Licensed Professional Engineer until licensure is obtained.
