Job summary
The Commonwealth of Kentucky's Transportation Cabinet, Department of Highways, seeks a Transportation Engineer Specialist in Frankfort, KY. You will design bridges, culverts, and retaining walls, detail structures and check designs for compliance with standards.
The ideal candidate has a Professional Engineer license, four years of engineering experience beyond licensure, and the ability to obtain Kentucky licensure within six months. Travel to job sites may be required.
Qualifications
- Four years of engineering experience required beyond licensure.
- Master's degree substitutes for one year of experience.
- Must hold or be able to obtain Kentucky PE license within probation.
- Must maintain licensure and credentials for duration of employment.

Must have four years of engineering experience in addition to that required for licensure as a Professional Engineer.
A master's degree in engineering will substitute for one year of the required experience. Graduate work in engineering beyond a master's degree will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.

Must possess a valid driver's license prior to employment in this job classification. Must be licensed as a professional engineer by the Kentucky Board of Licensure for Engineers and Land Surveyors OR must be licensed in another state with the ability to obtain a Professional Engineering licence from the Kentucky Board of Licensure for Engineers and Land Surveyors within the employee's initial six month probationary period. Engineering decisions recommended by individuals without a Kentucky Professional Engineering License must be approved by a KRS Chapter 322 Licensed Professional Engineer until licensure is obtained. Work is performed in the office and in the field. Will be exposed to risks inherent to construction sites which require the following of safety procedures.
This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
