Job Summary

This position is responsible for the efficient timing and phasing of traffic signals operated and maintained by ADOT, supervising staff, and interacting with local agencies and stakeholders to ensure effective traffic signal operation across jurisdictional boundaries.

Key Responsibilities

1. Develop traffic signal phasing and timing plans for various traffic conditions using software such as SYNCHRO & TRANSYT.
2. Implement and monitor traffic signal timing plans, making adjustments to reduce delays and congestion, including after hours and weekends.
3. Collaborate with local agencies and stakeholders, including developing inter-governmental agreements.
4. Research and develop hardware and software specifications for traffic signals.
5. Manage personnel activities such as coaching, training, performance monitoring, and scheduling.
6. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Knowledge of MUTCD, ADOT Traffic Guidelines, traffic safety principles, and applicable laws.
• Experience with traffic signal modeling software and traffic operations analysis.
• Proficiency with Google Suite, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
• Effective communication, decision-making, problem-solving, and team management skills.

Qualifications

Preferred: 4-year degree in civil, systems, electrical engineering or related field, PE registration, or 15+ years of relevant experience.

Pre-Employment Requirements

Valid AZ driver’s license, ability to operate a vehicle, and successful completion of E-Verify are required.
