Job summary

HDR is seeking a Transportation Engineer (Highway/Roadway) to join our Virginia-based team. You will design and manage highway projects, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, and ensure quality through all project phases.

Ideal candidates hold a PE license, have strong communication skills, and experience with OpenRoads/CAD tools. The role offers growth across major infrastructure programs within HDR's Transportation Business Group.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license.
• Hands-on experience with Highways CAD software (Bentley/Autodesk).
• Strong communication and organizational skills.
• Experience with urban and rural interchanges, traffic management, and transportation planning.
• Active participant in an employee-owned culture.

Responsibilities

• Work as a key member of a highway/roadway design team for moderate to large projects and independently on smaller projects.
• Prepare or oversee roadway/highway design work using local or AASHTO standards: alignment, sections, interchanges, sight distance, drainage, right-of-way.
• Prepare and oversee contract plans, specs and estimates: roadway sections, drainage, paving, traffic control, signatures.
• Assist in management of larger projects or manage smaller projects; include scopes, budgets and schedules.
• Manage day-to-day client communication, support junior staff, write reports, coordinate with subconsultants, keep on schedule and budget.
• Perform other duties as needed.
