Job summary

Texas Department of Transportation is seeking Transportation Engineer I or II for the Lufkin Area Office. Responsibilities include plan/design, construction, and maintenance support, with opportunities to lead, review contractor work, and liaise with stakeholders.

Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor’s in engineering, 4–5 years of related experience, and a valid driver's license or PE license. Positions offer solid benefits and a structured career path in a dynamic environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in engineering or related science accepted by TX PELS.
  • Experience: 4 years in engineering, transportation engineering, or related engineering.
  • Experience: 5 years in engineering, transportation engineering, or related engineering.
  • Licenses: Valid driver’s license and Professional Engineer license requirements noted.

Responsibilities

  • Assists Project Managers with resource assignments, schedules, scope, communication, quality and procurement.
  • Conducts pre-construction meetings and public hearings.
  • Drives to project locations for on-site engineering reviews and support.
  • Serves as a lead worker and oversees related tasks.
  • Monitors consultants’ progress and checks invoices and documents.
  • Monitors contractors’ compliance with plans and specifications.
  • Reviews shop drawings, plans, estimates and change orders.
  • Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
