Job summary

Texas Department of Transportation is seeking a Transportation Engineer I based in the Montgomery Area Office (Conroe, TX). The role involves planning project development, design, and project management, ensuring compliance with federal/state laws, and managing PS&E, cost estimates and scheduling.

Qualifications include a Bachelor's in engineering, 4 years of related experience, and a PE or eligibility with licensure; valid driver’s license required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering or related science per TX PELS.
• 4 years engineering/transportation engineering experience (full-time or prorated).
• Valid driver’s license; driving a state vehicle.
• Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) or eligible to obtain PE within 6 months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Oversee construction project traffic control plans; review traffic control devices with Area Engineers.
• Assist with design and plan preparation; support engineering reviews.
• Coordinate and monitor assigned projects/programs/plans.
• Travel to project locations for on-site reviews, analyses, and technical support.
• Interpret maintenance standards, rules and procedures; ensure compliance.
• Prepare estimates, specifications, and contract documents; perform engineering design work.
