Under the direction of the District Traffic Safety Engineer (Senior Transportation Engineer), this position performs pedestrian and bicyclist traffic safety investigations and prepares written responses to safety or operational issues. It also acts as a district subject matter expert on pedestrian and bicyclist safety, disseminating relevant information throughout the district.
The position is located at 500 S. Main St., Bishop, Inyo County, and involves both indoor office work and outdoor fieldwork, which may include exposure to weather, uneven terrain, and high-speed traffic. A valid California driver’s license is required. The role may be eligible for telework, subject to departmental policies. Travel and commute expenses are the responsibility of the employee.
Newly hired engineers may participate in a 24-33 month rotation program across various project delivery units, involving long-term travel and locations throughout the state. Temporary loan to other units may also occur.
