Job summary

City of Roanoke's Transportation Division is seeking a Manager of Transportation to direct, plan and coordinate the operation of the division, overseeing long-range programs, street construction and maintenance, signage, lighting, and snow removal.

The position requires a Bachelor's in civil engineering or related field, 5–10 years' experience, and a Virginia PE license or ability to obtain within six months.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or related field.
• 5–10 years' experience in construction and maintenance of streets or related facilities.
• Considerable managerial experience and/or training.
• Professional Engineer license issued by the State of Virginia or ability to obtain within six months of employment.

Responsibilities

• Plans, coordinates, and directs all facets of streets maintenance & traffic engineering for the City.
• Oversees projects in process and evaluates completed projects for compliance with laws, regulations, and ordinances.
• Establishes objectives, plans and evaluates operations and the overall effectiveness of the divisions services.
• Prepares division's budget, and monitors and/or approves expenditures.
• Prepares long-range plans for the division that include financial analysis and project review.
• Represents the City for street inspections, commissions related to transportation and associated activities.

Education

Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or related field

Five to ten years' experience in construction and maintenance of streets or related facilities

Considerable managerial experience and/or training

Professional Engineer (PE) license
