Job summary

WSB offers a Transportation Design Intern position that provides hands-on experience in planning, design, and delivery of transportation infrastructure projects. You will work alongside engineers and project teams, gaining exposure to roadways, highways, and traffic projects while developing technical and professional skills.

You will contribute to design tasks, assist with software tools like AutoCAD Civil 3D and MicroStation, and support documentation and coordination efforts.

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, or a related engineering program from an accredited university.
• Entering Junior or Senior year of study at the time of the internship.
• Interest in transportation design, roadway engineering, traffic engineering, highway design, or transportation infrastructure projects.
• Familiarity with AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation, OpenRoads Designer, or other transportation design software is a plus.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering plans, drawings, and technical documents.

Responsibilities

• Assist design and planning of transportation projects including roads, highways, intersections, and trails.
• Support engineers with design calculations, cost estimates, traffic analyses, and evaluations.
• Assist in preparing reports, specifications, permits, and other project docs.
• Review drawings and documents for accuracy and compliance with design standards.
• Participate in meetings, site visits, field observations, and data collection.
• Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams to deliver transportation solutions.
• Support project coordination, research, and develop design alternatives.
• Assist with industry software like AutoCAD Civil 3D and MicroStation.
• Learn design standards and practices while contributing to active projects.
• Support development of safe, efficient, and sustainable transportation systems.
