Job summary

Johnson, Mirmiran & Thompson (JMT) seeks Transportation Construction Inspectors for PennDOT district 4-0 projects across Luzerne, Lackawanna, Pike, Wayne and Susquehanna counties. Field work emphasizes adherence to plans, specs, and safety; incumbents perform material tests, field notes, and measurements.

Requires a driving license, HS/GED, and experience in highway/bridge inspection. JMT offers ESOP and comprehensive benefits; TN visa option applies for eligible candidates.

Qualifications

• Must have High School or GED; higher education can substitute for experience.
• Active driver’s license and a reliable vehicle; pass vehicle screening.
• Highway or bridge construction inspection experience.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine tests on concrete, soils and materials.
• Measure dimensions and verify alignment and elevations per plans.
• Maintain field notes and records.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

JMT’s Allentown based Construction Management Team is seeking Transportation Construction Inspection professionals to join our team. We have multiple positions available on projects within PennDOT's District 4-0 region (Luzerne, Lackawanna, Pike, Wayne, and Susquehanna Counties).

The successful candidate will apply standard inspection procedures to ongoing activities during and after construction for structural quality, general safety, conformance to plans, specifications and codes.

Immigration sponsorship or support (e.g. H1B, F-1 CPT/OPT/STEM OPT) is not available for this position, except for qualified candidates eligible for the TN visa classification.

Essential Functions And Responsibilities

• Review and interpret plans, site layouts, specifications and construction methods to ensure compliance to legal requirements and safety regulations
• Perform routine tests on concreate, soils and other materials
• Measure dimensions and verify level, alignment, and elevation of structures, fixtures, grades and/or pavement to ensure compliance to plans and codes
• Gather and maintain record documents
• Make field notes and computations

• Active driver’s license and reliable motor vehicle
• Must successfully complete and pass JMT's Motor Vehicle screening

Preferred Certifications

• Client Requested certifications, including: NICET Level II or higher in Transportation/Highway Construction
• NECEPT-Bituminous and Concrete Field Technician
• ACI Concrete Field-Testing Technician

Required Experience

• Highway or bridge construction inspection experience

Preferred Experience

• Prior (1 or more years) of Construction Inspection or Highway Occupancy Permit Inspection experience with PennDOT and/or Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission and an overall understanding of roadway/bridge construction. Must have High School or GED equivalent, higher education may be substituted for experience.
• CDS V-3 and/or ECMS Wave 5 Experience
• Associate or Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or construction management, additional technical degrees are eligible for consideration

Working Conditions

Work is performed in the field. Ability to extensively perform bending, kneeling, standing, shoveling, and lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 25 lbs as needed. Work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions.
