Johnson, Mirmiran & Thompson (JMT) is seeking a Transportation Construction Inspector Supervisor in the Fort Washington area to oversee highway and bridge projects for PennDOT and local agencies. The role ensures contracts meet plans, specs and safety standards.

Responsibilities

• Review and interpret plans, site layouts, specs and methods to ensure compliance with laws and safety regs.
• Coordinate and supervise project inspection activities for contractor compliance to plans and standards.
• Oversee, schedule and manage inspection staff across all project phases.
• Measure dimensions and verify level, alignment and elevation of structures and pavements.
• Draft project correspondence and facilitate meetings; resolve field issues.
• Witness sampling and testing of concrete, soils and other materials.
• Maintain project records in PennDOT ECMS and other systems.
• Interact with public, agencies, contractors and others to respond to inquiries.

JMT’s Fort Washington Construction Management team is seeking a qualified and experienced Transportation Construction Inspector Supervisor for highway, bridge other infrastructure projects within the southeastern Pennsylvania region. The successful candidate will supervise standard inspection procedures of construction activities on behalf of our clients (primarily PennDOT, PA Turnpike and other local agencies) for structural quality, general safety and conformance to plans, specifications and codes.

Essential Functions And Responsibilities

• Review and interpret plans, site layouts, specifications and construction methods to ensure compliance to legal requirements and safety regulations
• Coordinate and supervise project inspection activities to ensure contractor compliance of plans, contract documents, specifications and standards
• Oversee, schedule and maintain subordinate inspection staff throughout all project phases
• Measure dimensions and verify level, alignment, and elevation of structures, fixtures, grades and/or pavement to ensure compliance to plans and codes
• Makes field notes and computations
• Work on behalf of the Client to draft project correspondence, facilitate project meetings, and resolve construction related field issues
• Witness routine sampling and tests on concrete, soils and other materials
• Gathers and maintains project records (using PennDOT ECMS and other systems)
• Interact with the general public, government agencies, contractors, sub-contractors, and other internal and external parties to respond to inquiries

Required Skills

Required Experience

• Ability to act in an Owner’s Agent / Responsible in Charge role
• High school diploma or equivalent (may be substituted for experience)
• 4+ years of Transportation, highway or bridge Construction Inspection Experience
• Current client-requested certifications, including:
  • NICET Level 2 or higher in Transportation Highway Construction
  • NECEPT-Bituminous Field Technician
  • PennDOT Concrete Field Technician (ACI Concrete Field Technician is prerequisite)

Preferred Experience

• Associates or bachelor’s degree in Construction Management or Civil Engineering
• Supervisory experience in construction management or inspection projects
• CDS NeXtGen and/or ECMS Wave 5 certification or experience

Working Conditions

Work is performed in the field. Ability to extensively perform bending, kneeling, standing, shoveling, and lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 25 lbs as needed. Work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions.
