Job summary

Johnson, Mirmiran & Thompson (JMT) seeks Transportation Construction Inspection professionals to join our Central PA Team, working with PA DOT and PA Turnpike projects in Altoona, PA. The role focuses on inspecting construction for quality, safety, and plan conformance.

Requirements include 1–4 years of inspection experience, a valid driver’s license, and the ability to perform field tests. Immigration sponsorship is not available except TN visa classifications for qualified candidates.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent (may be substituted for experience).
• 1-4 years of Construction Inspection Experience.
• Active driver’s license and reliable vehicle.
• PennDOT/PA Turnpike inspection experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Review plans and specs to ensure compliance with laws and safety regulations.
• Perform routine tests on concrete and soils.
• Measure dimensions and verify levels and elevations per plans.
• Gathers and maintains record documents.
• Make field notes and computations.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

JMT’s is seeking Transportation Construction Inspection professionals to join our Central PA Team. Our primary clients are the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission and other Local Government agencies throughout our Central PA Region.

The successful candidate will apply standard inspection procedures to ongoing activities during and after construction for structural quality, general safety and conformance to plans, specifications and codes. Immigration sponsorship or support (e.g. H1B, F-1 CPT/OPT/STEM OPT) is not available for this position, except for qualified candidates eligible for the TN visa classification.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

• Review and interpret plans, site layouts, specifications and construction methods to ensure compliance to legal requirements and safety regulations
• Performs routine tests on concreate, soils and other materials
• Measure dimensions and verify level, alignment, and elevation of structures, fixtures, grades and/or pavement to ensure compliance to plans and codes.
• Gathers and maintains record documents
• Makes field notes and computations

Nonessential Functions and Responsibilities

• Perform other related duties as assigned

Required Skills

• Active driver’s license and reliable motor vehicle
  • Must successfully complete and pass JMT's Motor Vehicle screening

Preferred Skills

• Client Requested certifications, including: NICET Level 1 or higher in Transportation/Highway Construction
• NECEPT-Bituminous and Concrete Field Technician
• CDS NeXtGen and/or ECMS Wave 5

Required Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent (may be substituted for experience)
• 1-4 years of Construction Inspection Experience

Preferred Experience

• Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management
• Previous PennDOT and or PA Turnpike Inspection Experience
