THE POSITION

Are you prepared to take on an exciting seasonal position as a Transportation Construction Inspector with the Department of Transportation? We are looking for an exceptional candidate capable of inspecting material and workmanship on Highway and/or bridge construction projects within Engineering District 4-0. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this role, you will inspect all aspects of transportation construction activities. Responsibilities include verifying grades, elevations, and layout of structures and roadways in collaboration with contractors and surveyors. You will oversee the proper placement of materials such as cement concrete, bituminous concrete, and drainage components. Conduct visual non-movement compaction testing on sub-surface strata, soils, and aggregates. You will also engage with Department personnel, federal, state, and local agencies, legislators, and the public to ensure project success.

Work Schedule and Additional Information

• This is seasonal full-time employment.
• Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
• Work may involve collaboration with vendors; hours might vary based on vendor availability.
• Telework is not available for this position.

Minimum Experience and Qualifications

• At least three years of experience in highway or bridge surveying, design, construction, or inspection; or
• Three years of experience in quality control of materials or in the construction industry, including reading blueprints, plans, or schematics; or
• One year as an Engineering Technician or equivalent federal job title; or
• Two years as a Transportation Technician or Construction Cost Technician 1 or equivalent federal job title; or
• One year of construction inspection experience with an associate’s degree in a related engineering field; or
• An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Special Requirements

• Possession of an active non-commercial Pennsylvania Class C Driver’s License or equivalent.
