Job description

Transportation Construction Inspector

CDR Maguire Inc., a national multi-disciplinary engineering firm, is seeking Transportation Construction Inspectors for an upcoming project in the Kutztown, PA area (Berks County), PennDOT District 5. This is a 5-6 week concrete project scheduled to start in the second week of June 2025. Concrete experience is required; certification is preferred. Upon completion, the inspector will be assigned to another available project.

Essential Functions:

1. Ensure compliance with contract documents by the contractor
2. Consult with contractors, consultants, engineers, job superintendents, and others regarding plans, specifications, materials, equipment, methods, practices, and safety precautions involved in construction and installation
3. Prepare daily progress reports and maintain progress schedules
4. Check shop drawings and contractors' quotations for variations
5. Maintain records of quantities and costs of materials used
6. Prepare contractors' periodic progress payment claims and recommend payments

Other Principal Duties:

1. Travel as required related to duties or as directed by supervisor
2. Maintain a positive attitude to foster competence and pride in the company
3. Perform other duties as required, consistent with the position

Requirements:

• High school diploma or GED
• Effective communication skills in English, with basic math skills for measurements
• Minimum of one year PennDOT experience or two years of transportation, highway, or bridge construction inspection experience
• Four years of highway or bridge construction or related experience; non-inspection personnel can substitute this with successful completion of 12 web-based TCI training modules
• Civil Engineering or Construction degree can substitute for experience
• Bachelor's degree in a non-Civil Engineering field with successful completion of TCI modules can substitute for experience

Preferred Certifications:

• NICET Level 2 or higher in Transportation/Highway Construction
• NECEPT Bituminous Field Certification
• ACI/PennDOT Concrete Field Technician Certification
• PennDOT/PTC CDS Certification
• ECMS experience
• OSHA 10-Hour Certification
