Job description

CDR Maguire Inc., a national multi-disciplinary engineering firm, is seeking Transportation Construction Inspectors for projects around the Greater Johnstown area for the upcoming full construction season in 2025.

The Transportation Construction Inspector (TCI) is responsible for consulting with contractors, consultants, engineers, job superintendents, and others regarding plans, specifications, materials, equipment, methods, practices, and safety precautions involved in construction and installation of the work. The TCI prepares daily progress reports, maintains progress schedules, checks shop drawings and contractors' quotations for variations, keeps records of quantities and costs of materials used, prepares contractors' periodic progress payment claims, and recommends payment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Ensure contractor compliance with contract documents and safety plans.
• Verify that delivered materials conform to specifications.
• Check contractor’s layout and verify accuracy.
• Prepare and submit daily work reports.
• Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
• Follow instructions and utilize computers and office equipment.
• Perform physical activities such as bending, stretching, kneeling, sitting, and standing.
• Lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
• Wear required personal protective equipment.
• React appropriately to hazardous warnings and signals.
• Occasionally perform manual labor and work in adverse weather conditions.
• Limit exposure to chemicals.

OTHER PRINCIPAL DUTIES:

• Travel within the Greater Johnstown area as required.
• Maintain a positive attitude to foster competence and pride.
• Perform other duties as assigned that are appropriate for the position.

Minimum education includes a high school diploma, GED, or post-secondary education, with the ability to read, write, communicate in English, and perform basic math computations related to length, area, and volume.

Preferred certifications include:

• BS in Civil Engineering
• NICET Level 2 or higher in Transportation/Highway Construction
• NECEPT Bituminous Field Certification
• ACI/PennDOT Concrete Field Technician Certification
• PennDOT/PTC CDS Certification
• ECMS experience
• OSHA 10-Hour Certification
