Job summary

FirstEnergy is seeking entry-level Transmission System Operators in Akron, OH. The role focuses on safe, reliable control of the transmission system with extensive training to prepare for NERC/PJM certification and career progression.

As part of the team, you will assist in switching, coordination with field crews, and performing data analyses, load flows, and reports to support dispatch operations. Training pathways lead toward the Operator II level.

Qualifications

• Requires 2–4 years of engineering or technical school degree or equivalent experience with a high school diploma.
• Must satisfy EEi SOPD requirements and be able to meet NERC/PJM certification progress within the position.
• Demonstrated interpersonal and analytical skills; ability to perform electrical calculations and reliable data processing.

Responsibilities

• Assist in controlling transmission system operation safely and reliably.
• Propose operational changes to meet load fluctuations or equipment issues.
• Issue switching orders to switchmen and power plant personnel.
• Perform operating studies, load flows, and generate reports/data for dispatch.
• Coordinate with regional personnel on customer problem matters.
• Schedule work on substation, transmission lines, and plant equipment.
