Job summary

American Electric Power in Ohio is seeking an entry-level Dispatcher role focused on ensuring efficient transmission operations and coordination with the SCC and regional centers. You will assist in monitoring voltages, real and reactive power flows, and real-time operations across transmission voltage levels with limited guidance.

You will prepare switching orders, direct actions during emergencies, and maintain detailed logs.

Qualifications

• Two-year technical degree in Electrical Engineering Technology or related field.
• 1-2 years of experience in substation operation, protective relaying, or distribution dispatching is desired.
• Valid state driver license.
• HireVue Dispatcher Worker test results are required.

Responsibilities

• Assist in monitoring and regulating system voltage levels and real and reactive power flows.
• Assist in the real-time operation of the AEP transmission system with the AEP SCC and neighboring utilities.
• Assist in real-time operation of distribution equipment inside the station fence with regional centers.
• Prepare basic switching orders listing steps and safety tagging for equipment removal/maintenance.
• Assist in directing switching operations under emergency conditions to restore service.
• Maintain a log of events and transactions related to facility operation.
• Observe and assist in operating the SCADA system and related functions.
• Monitor metering and communications facilities and report malfunctions.
• Monitor weather information and notify proper personnel.
• Record station entry/exit activity.
