Job summary

1898 & Co., a Burns & McDonnell division, seeks experienced Transmission Planning Consultants to support its nationwide practice in power-system analysis and grid reliability. You will work with project managers and clients to deliver data-driven studies, reports, and recommendations across multiple regions.

Ideal candidates have strong analytical and communication skills, a background in utilities or ISOs/RTOs, and proficiency with PSS/E, PSLF, PSCAD, EMTP/ATP, SKM, ETAP, and Promod.

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree in Engineering or related degree from an ABET-accredited program or related degree and 3 years of related experience required.
• Master degree in Engineering or Business and 2 years of experience required.
• PhD in Engineering and 1 year of experience required.
• Experience with electric utility operations, planning, or consulting.
• Experience with power system planning and operations; transient stability, short circuit, and voltage analysis.

Responsibilities

• Perform transmission planning and operational studies (power flow, stability, N-1, etc.).
• Execute transmission planning studies independently using tools such as PSS/E, PSLF, PSCAD, ETAP, and Promod.
• Evaluate NERC/FERC/ISO requirements and regulatory compliance.
• Develop technical reports and client-facing presentations of study results.
• Support project managers with technical execution and proposal development.
• Mentor junior staff and collaborate across internal practices.
