WSP USA in Portland, OR is offering a Full‑Time Mechanical Engineering (Transmission) Intern position as part of the Summer Internship Program. The 12‑week internship starts May 17, 2027, for students enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate mechanical engineering program, with no relocation housing provided.

You will assist with engineering tasks, design calculations, project documentation, and learn the basics of mechanical engineering principles while mentored by senior staff within the Power

Qualifications

  • Actively enrolled in an accredited Mechanical Engineering or related undergraduate program with anticipated graduation August 2027 or later.
  • Must be 18 or older.
  • Demonstrated interest in Civil Engineering or related field; eager to learn about WSP’s work and projects.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills for engineering and non-engineering audiences.
  • Able to take direction from leadership, mentors, and managers on projects.
  • Basic proficiency with technical writing, office software, spreadsheets, and tools.
  • Committed to workplace safety and to following WSP safety policies.
  • Authorized to work in the United States at internship start.

Responsibilities

  • Support a variety of engineering tasks to develop technical, social, and ethical skills.
  • Learn basic principles of Mechanical Engineering.
  • Assist with project research, field work, and preliminary design calculations and analysis.
  • Support preparation of final design plans, special provisions, and cost estimates.
  • Assist in collecting and maintaining project documentation.
  • Complete training on assigned tasks.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision‑making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
  • Note: there is no relocation or housing assistance associated with this internship.
