Job summary

AEP Texas Company, Inc. seeks a Line Mechanic to install, maintain and repair energized and de-energized transmission lines in Texas. You will work under direct supervision with qualified personnel to perform duties safely, including pole setting, line splicing, and rigging tasks.

Required: High school diploma or GED, 1 year of line experience or completion of a power line program with internship, and a valid Class A CDL. Travel within 30 miles of the service location is expected.

Qualifications

• High school graduate or GED.
• Minimum of one year transmission electrical power line work experience, OR one year of related line experience defined as: successful completion of a one year electrical power line school certificate plus a minimum of 16 weeks internship or transmission electrical power line experience, or an Associate degree from an electrical power line school which includes a minimum of 16 weeks internship or transmission electrical power line experience.
• Valid Class A CDL is required.
• Must live within 30 miles of the service location.

Responsibilities

• Install, maintain and repair overhead lines.
• Dig holes for poles, towers and anchors.
• Set poles, tower below-ground components, and guy anchorages.
• Make up conductor and shield wire splices, dead-ends and terminals.
• Perform safety procedures and operate transmission equipment.
