Job summary

AEP is seeking a skilled Line Mechanic in Texas to support the installation, maintenance, and inspection of de-energized electrical transmission and distribution facilities. You will follow safety rules, patrol lines, and perform overhead line work under qualified supervision.

Ideal candidates have a high school diploma or GED, CDL Class A, and about one year of transmission power line experience or related training.

Qualifications

• High school graduate or GED required.
• One year transmission electrical power line experience or equivalent training.
• Valid Class A CDL is required.
• Must live within 30 miles of the service location.
• Physical demands include heavy lifting and climbing as described.

Responsibilities

• Perform duties following safety rules and report unsafe conditions.
• Patrol transmission lines using maps and drawings.
• Install, maintain and repair overhead lines; dig holes and set poles.
• Assemble and frame tower components; perform rigging and knots.
• Assist with live line tools and rubber glove procedures under supervision.
• Make up conductor splices, and install conductors and shield wires.
• Maintain tools, equipment and work area in good order.
• Attend training and assist in training others.
• Operate relevant automotive equipment and lifting devices.
• Maintain records and prepare field drawings.
