Job summary

American Electric Power in Texarkana seeks a Transmission Line Mechanic C to join the Transmission Team. Residency must be within a 30‑minute drive of the Texarkana Service Center. Responsibilities include installing, maintaining, and inspecting de-energized transmission facilities under supervision.

Education requires a High School diploma or GED; a CDL Class A is required. Experience options include one year of line work or related programs with internships.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• 1 year transmission electrical power line work experience, OR one year of related line experience defined as: completion of a one year electrical power line school certificate plus a minimum of 16 weeks internship or transmission electrical power line experience, or an Associate degree from an electrical power line school which includes a minimum of 16 weeks internship or transmission electrical power line experience.
• Valid Class A CDL is required.
• Physical demands include lifting up to 75 pounds, carrying up to 60 pounds, and working in heavy manual labor conditions as described.

Responsibilities

• Perform duties in accordance with safety rules and report unsafe conditions.
• Patrol transmission lines using maps and drawings.
• Install, maintain and repair overhead lines and related components.
• Dig holes for poles, install poles and anchors, and set up tower components.
• Assemble and frame pole structures on the ground and in the air.
• Assist in operating live line tools and other methods under supervision.
