Job summary

Renton School District is seeking a Transition Teacher to join our on-site team in Renton, WA. This full-time long-term substitute will develop and implement individualized transition plans, designing lessons that build life, work, and self-advocacy skills for students moving from secondary education into post-secondary options.

Qualifications

• Candidates should possess strong teaching and education skills.
• Effective communication to collaborate with students, families, staff, and partners.
• Ability to design individualized transition-focused instruction.
• Experience coaching students in transition-focused skills.
• Valid teaching certificate (special education endorsement preferred); knowledge of IEP processes.
• Experience in K-12 public schools.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement individualized transition plans for students.
• Design lessons building life, work, and self-advocacy skills.
• Coordinate with general education teachers, counselors, and support staff.
• Collaborate with families, community agencies, and employers.
• Monitor progress and adjust plans based on student needs.
• Maintain accurate documentation and participate in IEP/transition meetings.
• Contribute to school-wide initiatives promoting college and career readiness.
