Job summary

MBTA is seeking a co-op student to join our Workforce Modernization team, helping analyze business processes, identify improvements, and support change management across MBTA Operations.

The role involves collaborating with senior team members, documenting user stories, and developing requirements to implement practical optimizations in a transit agency context. You will work at least 2 days in-office, 40 hours per week, for 6–12 months in the Boston, MA area.

Qualifications

• Enrolled, for entire duration of employment, in an accredited college/university in Business, Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, Project Management, Operations Management, or Information Technology.
• 1 year experience (full-time or part-time) in the public transit or transportation industry and/or in business analysis, operations analysis, systems analysis, or related fields.
• Above average proficiency with standard office software (e.g. Microsoft Office) or relevant technical tools.
• Above average ability to communicate effectively in English, both in written and oral forms.
• Highly organized, motivated, and have great attention-to-detail.
• Passion for public transportation, urban planning, engineering, public policy, or public service.
• Above average ability to work effectively in diverse, collaborative, fast-paced environments as well as independently.
• Ability to independently commute to assigned work locations in the Boston, MA metro area, as required by the role.
• Authorized to work in the United States; MBTA does not provide visa sponsorship.

Responsibilities

• Work closely with MBTA Operational stakeholders to investigate and document user stories, map and document business processes, and use data to identify inefficiencies.
• Identify possible optimizations for MBTA operational business processes with tools and solutions.
• Document and translate stakeholder user stories into business requirements and feasibility of optimizations.
• See through development and implementation of proposed optimizations/solutions by coordinating stakeholder and technical teams.
• Construct a change management plan, materials, and trainings; lead change management initiatives.
• Develop stakeholder feedback loops to monitor progress and measure impact on MBTA operations.
• Participate in team meetings and other duties as needed.
• Additional department or location specific functions may apply.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
