Job summary

The MBTA is seeking a UX Designer to plan and deliver user experience design and research that improves usability and accessibility of MBTA products and services. You will work with cross-functional partners to turn research into actionable designs and ensure decisions align with organizational goals and constraints.

You will produce production-ready artifacts, apply design systems, and contribute to multi-touchpoint experiences across rider and staff journeys, while collaborating with product

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required.
• 2+ years of UX design experience.
• Experience with UX design methods and practices.
• Experience conducting qualitative research end-to-end.
• Experience designing multi-touchpoint user experiences.
• Ability to collaborate with product and engineering partners.
• Ability to communicate design and research decisions clearly, including tradeoffs.
• Applicants may be asked to complete technical assessments (UX case study or whiteboarding).

Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver UX design work across features or defined product areas, producing artifacts such as flows, wireframes, prototypes, and specifications.
• Conduct qualitative research planning, interviews, synthesis, and communicate findings to inform design decisions.
• Apply research insights to design solutions balancing user needs, accessibility, and constraints.
• Contribute to design systems and maintain consistency across experiences.
• Design coherent experiences across rider and staff journeys where relevant.
• Collaborate with product, engineering to define requirements and ensure feasible solutions.
• Mentor junior designers and participate in usability testing and accessibility evaluation.
