Job summary

MBTA in Boston seeks a Senior Director of UX Research and Design to lead the UX, Research, Design, and Content Strategy group. You will define and drive UX strategy, align priorities across portfolios, and ensure outcomes-supported services across Transformation and Technology.

You will build and nurture design teams, advocate for standards, translate insights into measurable product and service outcomes, and partner with stakeholders across departments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in CS, graphic design or HCI and related field.
• 10 years of progressive professional experience leading major initiatives.
• 7 years of supervisory/leadership experience in a matrixed org.
• Expertise across UX disciplines, methods, and accessibility standards.
• Ability to translate research insights into measurable outcomes.
• Strong organizational, analytical, and confidentiality skills.

Responsibilities

• Shape organization-wide research, design, and content vision and direction.
• Build design teams and direct strategies to improve end users’ lives.
• Lead research and design management including hiring and growth.
• Advocate for UX standards, frameworks, and best practices.
• Identify strategic opportunities and inform decisions with data.
• Support TT outcomes and contribute to technology strategy.
• Serve as a senior advisor and partner to other MBTA departments.
• Participate in rotating on-call duties and other duties as assigned.
