Job summary

Hires Group in Chicago is seeking a Senior Structural Engineer to lead the structural design of transit facilities from concept through construction. You will own technical direction, review calculations, and collaborate across architecture, civil, systems, and operations teams.

You will mentor junior engineers, drive the development of the structural engineering practice, and engage clients on proposals and scope.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil, Structural, or Architectural Engineering or related discipline.
• Licensed Professional Engineer (PE).
• 7+ years of experience in structural engineering with transit facility design expertise.

Responsibilities

Job description

Lead the structural design of complex transit facilities, providing technical leadership from concept through construction while mentoring engineers and collaborating across multidisciplinary teams. This role offers ownership of major infrastructure projects, client engagement opportunities, and the chance to shape transit systems in complex urban environments.

The job:

• Lead the structural design of transit infrastructure projects including passenger stations, maintenance facilities, storage facilities, and transit-support structures.
• Serve as the technical authority for structural systems, overseeing projects from planning and design through to construction support.
• Review and approve structural calculations, drawings, specifications, and quality control processes to ensure compliance with relevant codes and standards.
• Coordinate with architectural, civil, systems, construction, and operations teams to deliver complex projects within active transit environments.
• Support project delivery through client engagement, proposal development, scope definition, and technical leadership across multidisciplinary teams.
• Mentor junior engineers and emerging technical leaders while supporting the development of the structural engineering practice.
• Compensation: $155,000 - $180,000, including performance bonus, profit sharing, and company stock ownership opportunities.
